SAIYINGPUN SCHOOL.
HUNDREDS UNABLE TO GAIN ADMISSION.

The prizegiving took place yesterday of Saiyingpun School when the Inspector of English Schools (Mr. E.Ralphs) distributed the awards. The Headmaster (Mr. A.Morris) stated, in his annual report, that the average attendance at the school was 319; the school was full throughout the year, and several hundred applicants were unable to secure admission. Several classes maintained an unbroken record of attendance for six consecutive weeks, and ninety-three boys, – one quarter of the entire School, – made full attendance for the year.
The general standard of efficiency had been maintained: Map Drawing, English Conversation and Composition were particularly well taught and the school was used regularly as a Training School by the University education undergraduates. In sports the School had done well. A Troop of Boy Scouts, numbering 50, had been formed, the uniform and equipment being provided by the generosity of Mr. Ho Kom Tong. One of the Patrol Leaders had been awarded the gilt cross and a certificate from the Headquarters, London, for gallantry in saving a boy from drowning.
