SATURDAY’S SCOUT RALLY
Malay Scout With Pilot’s “A” Flying Licence
Over two hundred and thirty Scouts comprising 11 Troops took part in the Scouting competition for the Prince of Wales Banner, which took place at Sandiland’s Hut on Saturday, before a record attendance.
A number of contests comprising, Scout race test, ambulance work, weight judging and knot tieing were refereed by Mr. Hertslett, Assistant Commissioner for Malaya, D.S.S. Brent, D.S.S. Vauter. D.S.R.S. Barter, Mrs. Poxen, wife of A.S.M. Poxen of the 1st Hong Kong Sea Scouts and the Rev. G.T.Waldegrave, Commissioner for Hong Kong.
After an enjoyable tea the principal contest began which included touching, smelling and hearing tests, and a difficult kim’s game. Sixteen scouts from each troop were divided into four parties for this contest.
In his speech at the conclusion of the rally, the Rev. G.T.Waldegrave, the Hong Kong Commissioner, thanked everyone for turning out to the rally, which he explained was his last, as he was leaving for Home in August.
He then mentioned that the Rev. Halward was to be lent to Canton for three nights a week for the next six months in order to teach the Canton Scout Masters the right way to carry on the Scouting movement in Canton. He also said that on his retirement the Rev. Halward would become the Commissioner for Hong Kong.
An interested spectator was S.P.L. Jim Hertslett, a Malay Scout from Perak, who was the first Asiatic to gain an “A” pilot’s licence for flying and one of the first six of the Royal Singapore Flying Club.
Jim Hertslett has been described as one of the finest of Malaya’s Scouts, which is a strong statement, as there are well over 6,000 scouts in the country.

在比賽結束致詞時，香港總監華德利牧師感謝了各式出席人士，因為這是他最後一次出席比賽，他將於8月份返回英國。
他表示侯利華牧師將於未來6個月期間，每星期有三晚時間需前往廣州(Canton)，指導當地領袖於廣州推廣童軍運動。他並宣佈隨着他的離任，侯利華牧師將會接替成為新任香港總監。
場中有一位特別的旁觀人，他是來自霹靂(Perak)的馬來亞童軍，團隊長詹赫斯洛(Jim Hertslett)。他是首位考獲A級飛行員執照的亞洲人，並且是皇家新加坡飛行俱樂部(Royal Singapore Flying Club)首6名創會成員之一。
詹赫斯洛可說是馬來亞最優秀的童軍，此人頗具份量，因當地現有超過6,000名童軍。
