H.K. Scouts Meet Chief Scout Today
London, Aug. 23.
Lord Rowallan, the Chief Scout, will literally “drop in” to open the London International Patrol Camp today. He will arrive in a helicopter at a miniature tented city at Chingford, a London suburb landing in the centre of a circle of Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Consuls General and Scouts of nearly 40 countries.
There will be 650 Scouts attending the 10 day camp, many of them coming on from the world jamboree in Austria which ended on August 17. There will be representatives from many Empire countries, including Australia, British Guiana, Jamaica, Uganda, Hongkong, Kenya and Pakistan, Japan and Portugal will also have Scouts there.
At first they will all live in the homes of London Scouts, touring London and seeing the Festival. Then they will live in international patrols of six to eight boys at Chingford camp site.
The tented city decorated with flags, will have a market, a television tent, radio station, bank, photographer, tea and rest tents, post office, interpreters and a camp newspaper.
After Lord Rowallan’s opening address, the Scouts will hold their first camp fire. Tomorrow they are to march down Whitehall to salute General Sir Rob Lockhart, deputy Chief Scout. Other highlights of the camp will be a tour of the famous Arsenal soccer stadium and a match against an Arsenal eleven, an International steeplechase through Epping Forest, a visit to Windsor Castle, a final campfire which will be televised and a torchlight procession of nations. The camp closes on September 1.- Our Own Correspondent.
